A fantastic two-day event will be held next weekend to celebrate the grand opening of Darlington’s new entertainment and leisure destination, Feethams.

Following a development period spanning more than three years, the £30m scheme will officially launch on Saturday 25 June, with a big weekend of free, festival-inspired fun.

Simon Hawkins, Development Director with property development company Urban & Civic - which masterminded the exciting Feethams project - said the weekend’s event was going to be a huge celebration for the people of Darlington.

“From day one, our stated aim has been to bring the best possible complete entertainment scheme to the town,” said Simon. “For months now we’ve had to hide our excitement about which tenants were joining us and when we’d be opening, but now the long journey to make our vision a reality is almost over we wanted to show everyone that the wait has been worth it. What better way to do that than to stage a big party to which the whole town is invited?”

The new Feethams Darlington comprises a nine-screen Vue cinema as well as restaurants such as Bella Italia, Prezzo, Nando’s, The Woollen Mill Hungry Horse pub and an 80-bed Premier Inn, with Subway due to open soon and further restaurants in advanced negotiations.

“With our hotel and restaurants already open and the cinema opening this week, this event is our way of launching Feethams to the town,” he said. “Our podium is a perfect events space and we’ve got some terrific entertainment lined up for the whole weekend.”

Filled with family fun, games, competitions and special offers, Feethams Fest kicks off on Saturday, 25 June at 11am.

“There’ll be a playlist of festival music throughout both days, and a special chill out music zone together with dozens of deckchairs for relaxing,” said Simon. “There will be a fabulous face-painting station, while our pop-up ‘piano stop’ will be providing live music - as well as giving our talented visitors the chance to show off their skills by tickling the ivories.”

Giant children’s games and a special photo booth complete with festival-themed props will add to the family fun, together with balloon modelling and a roaming ‘bubblologist’, who will be making huge bubble creations – and even putting children in giant bubbles.

“We’ve teamed up with our tenants to offer some great give-aways and competition prizes too,” said Simon. “There’ll be loads going on to make sure that Feethams Fest is fun for all the family.”

Simon said that he and everyone at Urban & Civic was incredibly excited that the leisure and entertainment scheme was going to be opened next week.

“We’ve worked really hard to make sure that Feethams is a place that has something for everyone,” he said, “from the fantastic Vue cinema and Premier Inn through to the terrific variety of dining options on offer. Part of our plan was to ensure we offered the people of Darlington a variety of quality restaurant options when they visited the complex, and we’re thrilled that those plans have now come to fruition.”

With a whole host of special offers, promotions and give-aways alongside some great family entertainment, Feethams Fest will be held at Feethams Darlington on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 June, from 11am to 4pm each day.
